IR TV Review: PEACEMAKER - EPISODE 4 (“The Choad Less Traveled”) [HBO Max]
The key aspect that "Peacemaker" does as it heads into its 4th episode is speak to the ideas of what good decisions can perhaps look like in the greater sense and the elements of consequence. Every member of the "Peacemaker" mission crew but especially Leota (Danielle Brooks) has to come to terms that they are perhaps going down a path they don't like or can't turn away from. What is interesting is that both Vigilante and Harcourt seem destined for the right kind of fail which is one which will only turn out bad in the end. Peacemaker is a product of his own upbringing but also perspective. Heart is a word that a few of the characters banter around but it is based in an actual texture of listening to each other which no one seems to do. This is also is part of the humor.
This episode ("The Choad Less Traveled") is directed by Jody Hill ("Eastbound & Down") and you get a litle more of his timing come through that is apparent from his work with Danny McBride. His stories are also ones of lovabale buffoons trying to do the right thing but never quite getting there despite best intentions. The texture of the Butterflies is still out there but this episode is more about choices. The ending montage at the end by Hill finds a good balance whereas Gunn likes to do a little more trickery and scale. Peacemaker, as a character, needs to come to peace with himself. The essence of "The Choad Less Traveled" is more akin to "The Choad Stops Here" because the texture of loyalty and intent is always a big aspect that continues to revolve through this story. B
