IR TV Review: WANDAVISION - EPISODE 7 [Disney+]

The idea of movement through a space is usually dictated by choices made. In "Episode 7" of "Wandavision", it is about processing the facts but those can be misleading as well. Creating an even more forward reference to late 90s single camera shows as well as pieces like "Malcolm In The Middle" or "Modern Family" when one speaks to camera, this episode shows the texture of Wanda starting to feel pressured under the idea that her marriage is in trouble and she doesn't know what to tell her kids. But t is also existential because it is about the reality (somewhere in the back of the construct) of those she has lost. It is not primarily that the marriage is in trouble. The love between her and Vision is strong but it is disjointed as far as what the endgame is. The question becomes protection and, to be more precise, deflection which becomes more pointed angle from two fronts: one seen and one unseen.

Giving any more away would risk a spoiler but the one thing that "Wandavision" does do is integrate some deep tracks in terms of mythology (which is great for the fanboys) but even if one is a follower of the movies and now the series, the mythology as it relates for decades in comic books is a little more periphery. This can both be maddening at times because there is not the immediate point of reference but it is still cool. But I also think when the originators of Marvel were making up all of their stories back in the 50s and 60s, they never quite expected it would be imagined in this way. That is the tricky part of it but also the beauty of it, and it is taking those themes and those characters and making their journeys, at times, reflective and retro and yet modern. B
