IR TV Review: THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT - EPISODE 7 (“In The Name Of Honor”) [Lucasfilm/Disney+]

The aspect of wrapping up stories has to with the notion of pace and closure. Sometimes certain ideas must be sacrificed for the greater good. Sometimes life gets in the way and distinctifies that certain actions must be taken to make certain parts of the narrative move forward. The culmination of "The Book Of Boba Fett" in Episode 7 entitled "In The Name Of Honor" is more about showing a progression in Fett's mindset versus that of The Mandalorian which of course this finale builds quickly back into. The only thing that lingers is that there is dark psychology of Boba when he was a boy as "The Clone Wars" shows and for good reason. Early in the season, you see his mind harking back in the Bantha tank watching Jango leave. Now whether that is the context of family or a simple pang of memory, that idea never truly comes to bear which is slightly disappointing. Especially after the last two episodes, it is tricky because those were so heavily lore related (and focused on the Mandalorian) that they are pretty hard to follow up. Fett basically turned out not as interesting or ruthless as we hoped but you can't base a series around a purely bad guy.

The rub of the last episode is just that it doesn't cut as deep as the previous two. But this might be that we aren’t as invested in Boba ultimately. One relationship of Boba does come to bear and it works despite us not really seeing its full fruition though it is welcome. It is ironic that brutal strength in his comeuppance works. Fett does have some new collaborators which helps. His previous life does come to bear and the circle is completed for the most part. It may not be as moving as the other episodes but that just might be that Robert Rodriguez is not as much of a Star Wars nut as he makes himself out of to be but he does like to play cowboys (as does Jon Favreau).
