IR TV Review: THE BAD BATCH - EPISODE 6 (“Decommissioned”) [Disney+]

The aspect of mission based episodics is a well- proven but sometimes unused aspect in serialized series. It works where the ideas are feeding into a big bigger whole. In Episode 6 of "The Bad Batch" entitled "Decommissioned" functions in that structure. The Batch is still under thumb to someone who might help them but is using them to her own advantage. It is a period of learning but the effective part is that you see different parts of the team evolving in different ways, both towards a darker point as well as a lighter point. Filoni makes and integrates another "Clone Wars" connection (which he must have been prepping in that last season). There is a bigger superstructure here in how the Batch fits in.

A pair of twins who are a part of the side effect of this episode's mission have an interesting parallel, especially in how they recognize something in Omega (which they did for another important) but also in the requisite scratching of backs between the teams. The ultimate resolution is distinctly vague on purpose but the episode also brings a bit of prequel humor which had been missing to a point in this series (as that kind of previous humor skewed a little younger). Where the functionality goes in the next episode is anyone's guess but the canon clues will continue to be revealed. Another point is that the planet that is visited also has relevance to the canon as well in the fact that many things have been built from there. B
