IR TV Review: STAR TREK - PRODIGY - EPISODE 7 (“First Con-tact”) [Paramount+]

Lessons learned or loyalty refined continues to be the baseline in "Star Trek: Prodigy". In Episode 7: "First Con-tact", the Prime Directive is a big point as far as interaction with species. Our young would-be captain Dal is learning bt still making mistakes thinking he knows the world. Here he interacts with a former associate and the greatest takeaway from this episode is understandig that not everythg is what it seems and everyone seems to have his or her own agenda. The episode does point to the fact that sometimes your crew are the only ones you can count on...but it depends if it is for the right reasons. The integration of use of technology (specifically transporters) is nicely subtle while still showing the evolution of what is going on. The back story of the Protostar, especially with Captain Chakotay at the helm is interesting but points perhaps to a darker fate with Janeway. But because this is a Nickelodeon show it can't go too far down that path. The overarching story of a father and the destiny of his daughter is of course paramount in the overall path od the series but it depends on the destiny of that which is still evasive. The first contact reference is apt but done in a simple enough way that its execution and redemption is not crispy resolved while still allowing for a nice lesson. B-
