IR TV Review: STAR TREK - DISCOVERY - EPISODE 9 (“Terra Firma - Part I”) [CBS All Access-S3]

Disco309-review.jpg

The idea of motivation but ultimately resolution has always been a tenet of "Star Trek" but in someone so committed as Terran Emperor Georgiou, angles of power become a little more complicated. This episode "Terra Firma, Part I" brings Philippa make into range of her Terran Empire in a way but alas is using it as a problem solving mechanism. It might be in her mind. It might be for real. In any aspect, it gives another look at the Mirror Universe, allowing the Discovery crew to channel their inner demons. This specific progression takes place at a certain time but with different knowledge available and, by an interesting device, from a completely different perspective. The device is an interesting one, but not altogether original. The play is a great hark back to the Original Series, even if this series is now set in the 31st Century. Yeoh has always been a powerful presence in the series but, considering where Section 31 was initially going to be and now this structure, it will be interesting to see the resolution in her mind. One thing that is for sure is that Terran Georgiou never quite takes the path one would think. With this being the first part of a two- parter, it is assumed that a change in progression is afoot but its consequence is uncertain. B+
