Sirk TV Comic Review: STAR TREK - YEAR FIVE #20 [IDW]
The progression of Star Trek lore can be retrofitted and changed but canon has an interesting balance in the light of what is continuous and what is just hidden, much like Michael Burnham's actual existence. In "Star Trek Year Five" #20 [Easton & Galifano/IDW/33pgs] entitled "The Raptor's Wings", the texture of Spock going into the past is tested again. But the perspective of conscience (in a way) is what makes this one different. The changing of ideas and therefore time plays a big part. While the discourse is interesting, the reasoning of Spock to make certain decisions especially after his time on the Enterprise is undeniably flawed but might still be true. Since his search for the Kolinahr happens after this in "Star Trek I", the aspect bears witness which will be explained hopefully in later issues. These approaches are buoyed by the character of "Bright Eyes", the junior Tholian who has been working with the Enterprise. The problem is too often, he simply comes off as a plot device. This storyline carries promise but again it depends on the machinations that follow. B-
