Sirk TV Comic Review: IDW Mix 11-24-20 (IDW)
Power is an interesting fluctuation either in the discovery or the loss of it which many of these issues debate.
Star Trek: Voyager - Seven's Reckoning #1 The essence of discussing Seven Of Nine's humanity on Voyager is based in the idea of breaking down in essence human constructs. With this new Voyager comic story, the question becomes one of who to trust but also what is the right perception. Is it based on the idea on what culture dictates or what the reasoning is for certain prejudices. It is an ongoing debate and, as usual, it is a pull between logic and emotion and what dictates the greater good, something that would come to impact Seven in later years.
Star Wars Adventures #2 (2020) After "The Last Jedi" tried to find the right balance in training but also in finding who Rey believes herself to be is an interesting balance. Poe and Finn try to build a Jedi obstacle training course on a planet which ends up being run by mercenaries. While the inherent bumbling nature of Poe & Finn seems undeniably on display, the sheer acrobatics and dance that define BB-8 and Rey seem to be consistent. There is reference to the teachings of Master Leia but it is only referenced and not seen. The second story story interestingly enough speaks to the loneliness and, by extension, unchecked ego of Kylo Ren. What is interesting is one point when someone does speak up to him, he doesn't strike but instead stokes the fire, just to see the response. He wants to be challenged and shown he is wrong by someone more powerful but that is the rub since none comes to bear out of fear. It is an interesting existential question that was never quite touched on in the movies. But it was a similar issue with Anakin. The movies are sometimes too big to answer these questions that is why something like an Obi Wan series can speak to these points.
Sonic The Hedgehog #34 The essence of texture of life is relegated in different worlds in the intention of energy. Within this corner of the Sonic world, the chao take on this idea. Keeping them safe against evil is, of course, of utmost importance. But this can only be done by those who can train them versus control them. The initial story involves a dark presence (not Eggman) for once looking for control. In effect though, it is darkness that saves as well in the form of Shadow. Meanwhile Sonic himself, inept as he usually is, is trying to find new paths to enlightenment. He comes across a wooden person whom he thinks as a robots but the texture of Pinocchio does not dawn on him (though that mythology might simply be the path to a different story).
Sonic The Hedgehog - Bad Guys #3 The essence of any villain is wanting to maintain or regain more power than their competitors. It is never the texture of sharing power or finding diplomatic or democratic solutions. For this reason, these villains' attempts a stability are never long standing. Eggman tries to bring people together but even his maniacal structure doesn't allow for anything more than simple stop gaps. Doctor Starline, a quack herself, is the one with most direct field of thought to success but she cannot keep her hand steady enough to win the battle.
Star Trek - Year Five #16 The end of a 5 year voyage speaks to what has been accomplished but what can be learned. The crew does show its wear but also what deductive reasoning can do and how it can rub off on others in the long run. Continually a thorn in Kirk's side, Mudd is running for president of the Federation but being pushed by a secondary power. It is always Mudd's ego that gets him in trouble. If he had siimply played the long game, he would be in a much better space and enjoying life. The Little One (a Tholian) continually shows that sometimes the best solutions are the simplest ones since the same answers cannot always win the day.
Marvel Action: Chillers #2 Using the Marvel Universe to tell an aspect of monster stories is an interesting side plot. Operating like an anthology, Williams, a young female Captain America (in a cool outfit no less) is helping Doctor Strange rid Central Park of vampires. He seems unaffected by the unusual animal behavior that has happened but he tells stories from a book to give Williams a sense that their adventures are not uncommon with others. There is one akin to Red Riding Hood when a monster hunter in Elsa Bloodstone happens upon the real Captain America who has been turned into a werewolf by someone in the Iron Man suit who is not Iron Man. She eventually is able to bring him under control with a silver bat but it shows the essence of problem solving that Dr. Strange is trying to bestow on his pupil.
