CES 2009 Industry Reflection - Commentary

Every year the Consumer Electronics Show is filled with the latest innovations but is also reflective of the world strategies as a whole. 2009 has been no different.Last January, some of the larger vendors kept a low profile. Hitachi was a prevalent example as it had lost the HD format wars. Texas Instruments also maintained its quiet because of the low marketing results of its DLP rear projection displays. The economy also caused lower numbers in attendance and vendors which in turn reflects a more lean but refracted market. One of the new innovations last year which was quite ground breaking was the consumer release of flat wire products for audio, video, and data applications by Flatwire Ready. The cosmetic gains of the installation of flat wires (on walls or floors after either being painted or covered with wallpaper) was very impressive. The upgrading of LCD displays by increasing the refresh rate from 120 HZ to 240HZ and the advances in Sony's 3D technology were some of the more inventive ideas showcased. With CES 2010 approaching, the question becomes what will be the next advance or will the global infrastructure reflecting the continuing hard times? Only time will tell.- Industry Commentary By Michael Wassberg
