IR TV Review: WILL TRENT - EPISODE 5 (“Capt. Duke Wagner’s Daughter”) [ABC-S2]

The aspect of understanding has been a path for Will Trent. Coming to terms with his identity and how he reconciles his tendencies against those around him has been the build over the past two seasons. In Episode 5 of Season 2 entitled "Capt. Duke Wagner's Daughter", the focus shifts specificially on GBI Director Evelyn Michell (Lisa Gay Hamilton) who has been both his biggest supporter of Trent but also the one that pushes him farther. The episode flashes back to 1995 when Mitchell was a young cop in Atlanta but also when her father was the captain. In recent episodes she had been targeted but was quiet about the reasons why. Trent of course will always get to the bottom of whatever is happening but the context of right and wrong within the structure of protocol is brought into question here.

Trent has lost a couple of people recently including a romantic interest. Angie (Erika Christensen) is still his rock in many ways but they need to live their lives in different ways even though that tension will always be between them which is a great build within the show. Angie's partner at the Atlanta PD: Michael (Jake McLaughlin) has family issues of his own but the plot progression seems more free flowing and less antagnistic than last season while still remaining contextual and maintaining stakes. The truth of what Mitchell is going through is revealed and the pinnacle of the episode does deliver though it will be interesting to see repurcussions. Jenna Elfman also guests as a higher up and it is interesting tob see her take on a dramatic role in that regard and she definitely has impact. The question for Trent now becomes balance and finding that pendulum that will serve him, his life and his friends in the future. B+
