IR TV Review: SHE HULK - ATTORNEY AT LAW - EPISODE 4 [Marvel/Disney+]
The influx of comedy in "She Hulk" depends on how far it is taken. The idea of what constitutes "Superhero Law" is an interesting construct because as she says earlier in the season, "Do superheroes have a retirement plan, healthcare, a 401K?" "The Falcon And The Winter Soldier" did of course ask this question before but with Jennifer Walters it becomes more about on the ground relevance. She has a nice house but the question that enters into your mind is does she own it. The dating struggle is addressed in this episode but it is also relegated with the ideals of a certain magician.
Wong as a character definitely brings that same humor to it and the 4th wall reflexivity is working the more it moves along. The good thing about the series is that it does have a episodic issue-of-the-week simply reflecting in She-Hulk living her life as she can with some bumps. Of course this being the MCU it is not as simple as that. The good aspect though is that the episodes move fast oftentimes adding just a little bit of punch at the end, both as a tease but also to deconstruct the character at each end of each episode, which, again, is a testament to an actress like Maslany who understands this (while the writers also understand how to play to this strength).
