IR TV Review: OBI WAN KENOBI - EPISODE 6 [Disney+]

With the advent of the series finale (for now) element of "Obi Wan Kenobi" with Episode 6, one wondered how they could deliver after the intricacy of Episode 5. The thought was initially a longer finale but 48 minutes did it just fine. Small plot holes for cinephiles not withstanding, this was some of the best "Star Wars" that has been created in recent memory but it is because of the set up of the previous two episodes that created a sense of attachment and emotional connection to make the plot points riveting. Say what you will about "Revenge Of The Sith". This reviewer talked to both Hayden Christensen and Ian McDarmid for the Blu Ray release in 2005. Hindsight and time have given the prequels better standing. But the final duel on Mustafar with Obi Wan screaming in pain at what he did to his friend in that film is what fuels and make visceral what happens in this episode.

To give away anything else would ruin it. And yet it is also the balance (as it is with the Force) with a couple quiet moments of truth (from a certain point of view) with Leia that shows the strength of what is ahead. "Star Wars" is one of the few properties that can do this and Obi Wan and Anakin like Luke and Leia are integrated into the consciousness of this. While a parallel storyline (though important) doesn't have as much suspense or motivation as the main (hence small plot holes), it keeps the story running. But the scale and intimate psychological nature of consequence versus empathy versus hate that is at the core of what this chase was all about between these two men is something that will still stew. "Obi Wan Kenobi" definitely found its groove as did its leads. It was an enjoyable, if not bittersweet ride with an old friend once again. A-
