IR TV Review: MASTERS OF THE AIR - EPISODE 6 [Apple TV+]
The aftermath and reflection of life is always an interesting path. With Episode 6 of "Masters Of The Air", the story takes place on three fronts: at a conference at Oxford, at a retreat in the English countryside and in the thick of German territory avoiding capture. This episode, which contains hardly any airplanes, is a great bridge episode because it really gives a sense of perspective. Nate Mann as Major Rosenthal has the most interesting angle simply in him trying to understand why this break is important. His explanation inside a late night sitting room perfectly encapsulates what the issues within his psyche are but leads to a revelation of the act he sustained in the air that allowed his fellow soldiers to push forward. Crosby (played by Anthony Boyle) is now a captain and goes to a conference at Oxford as a way to get away.
Even though he is married, he makes friends with a fellow soldier which is an interesting balance for him. He is able to interrelate with her much more in terms of knowing what he can't change and what he can't fix. Again in a quiet moment she puts things perfectly in perspective without overplaying it. All have their cinematic elements but it is Callum Turner as Major Egan trying to escape the Nazis that has the most cinematic scene though no less dynamic than the otehrs. One specific interrogation is wonderfully done and shows the pendulum in many ways before a train sequence brings to mind horrors in "Schlinder's List". It is a poignat episode which also delivers in its closing coda in a way. While it is not about bombing raids, in many ways, it is about something much more important and does so from effective perspectives. A
