IR TV Review: LOKI - EPISODE 2 [Marvel/Disney+-S2]
Finding the reason and existing in peace is somewhat ingrained in the nature of humanity. However, there is duality in everyone. With the second episode of season 2 of "Loki", the concept of what might drive Sophie is unclear but her initial reboot in dealing with it is unusual. One set moment with her and Loki staring across the counter is existential but is not really used for all it is worth. The timeline placement of it is pretty cool though but not necessarily overtly meaningful when it could have been much more. The interesting element of the entire "Loki" concept is how with time, there is no time so we are not necessarily sure the breadthe of impact we are looking at. Ke Huy Quan's Opie talks about that in a way when he says Mobius hadn't been down to see him for 400 years. Everything about the Marvel Universe we know in that way has likely come and gone in the dust. Again a grand concept but one that needs a bit more flushing out to really grasp,
There was some small sense of it with some of the variants towards the end of the season last year especially with the Kang reveal. But as the 2nd episode concludes, it is about grasping what the powers that be (or he that will not be named) is actually doing versus those forces inside the TVA doing in terms of their own selfish approach. There is a MacGuffin in this episode that is supposed to be that person. His knowledge is finite but like Cypher in "The Matrix", an overarching theme here in this season is the want of many characters to be left alone in ignorance (especially if everything is going to end). Again the impact of what we are seeing is not fully brought to bear. Hopefully this is just building to a different mode of execution. There is a very unique pie scene though which follows an interrogation which is one of reflection that is both a sweet moment for Mobius and Loki but also foreshadowing but in forward and reverse. B
