IR TV Review: HALO - EPISODE 4 (“Homecoming”) [Paramount+]

The texture of realization of suppressed memories is the fuel that is pushing Master Chief as "HALO" continues into Episode 4 with "Homecoming". The idea of more information for the greater good (or bad as it may be) is an interesting balance here since different people have different ideas of goals. The perspective of the Spartans, especially the texture of control with the emotional suppression chips, become more defined here but also the power struggle between Dr. Halsey (Natasha McElhone) and her younger competition. The dynamic of Halsey is intriguing because there is definitely something else she is hiding. The secondary journey of Kwan Ha is less interesting and her acting is a bit overplayed so it becomes slightly overbearing and it takes one out of the story.

Bokeem Woodbine who plays a former Spartan/compatriot of Master Chief, now turned pirate, also has divided intentions but really doesn't register how he should considering his family. Cortana as a character is interesting but more than aptly a plot ploy until she (possibly) might turn. Master Chief is actually allowed to indulge what is happening but overall, the episode is simply meant to bridge the stories to get them to the next point. This is understandable but makes the episode one of the lesser ones so far because of its lack of engagement (save for the female Spartan who in a way has her own awakening -- but that might be another story entirely).
