IR TV Review: DISNEY GALLERY - STAR WARS - THE MANDALORIAN ("The Making Of Season 2")[Disney+]
The release of "Disney Gallery - Star Wars - The Mandalorian - The Making Of Season 2" is an interesting but overarching view of the stories that were told in Season 2 save for one glaring one near the end which is not discussed. Unlike the Season before, probably because of COVID and likely because of other projects that were moving before we knew about them, it approaches tthe perspectives of the filmmakers and less of the mythology. Certain ones are very specific. One can see the connection that Robert Rodriguez has with Boba Fett but there is less intrinsic information on "The Jedi" episode than maybe one would like. The "Making Of" seems stand alone so it is unsure if it will be supplemented by other BTS on different aspects of the season. It is interesting to see Peyton Reed (who directed "Ant Man") and his approach to the two different episodes he did with an almost no-faces episode and then the finale which itself must have been heavy pressure because of the eventual reveal.
Bryce Dallas Howard is interesting because she again had to deal with the more practical element of water versus her village setting last year. Each director seems directly suited to what they are doing. Carl Weather's episode seems the most organic in terms of the action and characterization because while it is plot driven, one gets that sense of levity. And there is also a quip relating to the post credits sequence of the finale which has a nice throwback. It is also interesting to see everyone with their phones try to capture a piece of imagery on the day whether it be Jon Favreau or especially Rodriguez. Filoni seems to be taking it in stride as well, even though he doesn't give as much insight into the mythology but that just might be relevance for time. B+
