IR Film Review: ARTEMIS FOWL [Disney+]
"Artemis Fowl" doesn't quite know its audience and its audience doesn't quite line up here either. It plays too young while not playing older much like a more expensive version (sorry) of "Agent Cody Banks" with mythology thrown in.
IR Film Review: ONWARD [Pixar/Disney]
"Onward" works well and bring in textures of mythology but within the context of a modern world. It is intrinsic but, despite the quest motif, almost seems smaller than one would expect.
IR Film Review: THE CALL OF THE WILD [20th Century Studios/Disney]
"The Call Of The Wild" does it differently and, as a result, benefits from what would be seen as a more natural performance of the dog. The dog of course is not a dog at all but motion captured but the way it is done seems undeniable.
IR Film Review: STAR WARS - EPISODE IX - THE RISE OF SKYWALKER [Lucasfilm/Disney]
The film here feels right. It is the best made of this trilogy of films mating some of the basic risks that Abrams might have avoided with “Force Awakens” which felt infinitely too safe but also keying into aspects of what fans would like to see.
