IR Film Review: FLY ME TO THE MOON [Apple/Sony]
The initial texture of “Fly Me To The Moon” has some interesting tendencies. Scarlett Johansson is brought in as a PR spinner to help make NASA a cool, well-oiled machine. The irony or play of the element within the story is what gives it pause. Realistically, in the character build and execution, it makes total sense and as a character piece, it is very contextual. But to build such a large scale film around this kind of story is an interesting risk
IR Film Review: ARGYLLE [Apple Original Films/Universal]
The aspect of the spy genre and what it means in reflection about the people who enjoy them is at the center of the whirlwind which is "Argylle", a new comedy/action film from Matthew Vaughn. Vaughn has always found interest in the quirky but then melding it with high concept action. His films are not straightforward and yet do speak to originality while also being derivative of everything before it.
IR Film Review: NAPOLEON [Apple]
The context of "Napoleon" as a perspective to power is an admirable one but a film that only peripherally captures what might have been. There are certain ideas of what the French conqueror might have been or was. The new film from Ridley Scott starring Joaquin Phoenix as the monarch of sorts has some moments of beauty and sublimeness but most often seems to show the Emperor in his failings.
