Fest Track On Sirk TV Film Review: ATTACHMENT [Tribeca Film Festival 2022 - Virtual]

The context of Jewish mysticism is an interesting parable in the texture of history since many aspects are elements from the Old Testament. Today's current idea of demons is mixed in the context of horror and not the psychological basis of it...and those certain elements that we do not understand. "Attachment" [Midnight] uses the idea of connection and dependence against its main characters in Maja (Josephine Park) and Leah (Ellie Kendrick). Using context of "The Exorcist" but more with a reverse character motivation, the build of claustrophobia is seen from an outsider's perspective. The forward thinking is actually how accepting people are in many ways of what is happening (even though it is considered outside the norm to even acknowledge its existence.) But this ideal of secrets works against the participants despite their reasoning and best intentions. Maja is operating in the dark and the middle part of the movie works well in this regard because it takes into account that all this might be in one of the character's heads or a different problem entirely.

Kendrick plays Leah with an innocence that shifts when it needs to. Sofie Gråbøl as Chana, Leah's mother has the hardest job as a character and, by comparison, the biggest pay-off. Yet the context of guilt all the participants try to protect the antagonist from per se is all for naught in a way despite the outcome. The life that is led is one of chance with the ideal to keep the dragon (to use a metaphor) in the box knowing that one day it will escape. "Attachment" does use the metaphor that protection will always find a way to shelter its own. The responsibility simply falls to the person next in line and the circle will continue. B
