Sirk TV Comic Review: Dark Horse Advance Previews [10-31-12]

The cross-section of advance previews for 10/31/12 motivate on the basis of known franchises. All three elements explore the notion of what identity means ultimately in a progression where destiny seems an unforgiving fact. This portrays the dexterity in its story progression. BEWARE: Spoilers Ahead!Angel & Faith: The Hero Of His Own Story - Part 1 - Whistler/Part 2 - Pearl & Nash This neatly separate issue tells two tales of redemption and fate within different progressions for both. After leaving Buffy, Angel has escaped with Faith to literally purge his soul looking for the greater good. He revolves into a meeting with Twilight who is the one who made him. The recollection revolves around that Angel didn't know or fulfill his destiny because of the unforeseen aggressiveness of Buffy. There is no right path for him despite his best intentions. On the other end of the spectrum, Pearl & Nash were born out of darkness. Their whole lives have been struggling to fit in and their demonic rage made them both pariahs and yet quite powerful. Ultimately the salvation of both depends on the world that is about to be made against their better judgment. The art reflects the mundane with peppers of bright color to enhance the life against death motif.B.P.R.D: Hell On Earth - The Return Of The Master #3 The intent of this issue is to show that the reign of Lazar is set to come forth again. The theme seemingly running through the structure revolves around the importance of various integrals to the success of the mission. Integrating many story lines inherent in "Hellboy" itself, the structure takes into account that new advances mean different answers to preexisting problems. Exploring the hell-bound kingdom that Lazar must suffer through reflects a reverse Christ mentality for however he reigns. Add to this progression the idea of the continuing battle for balance between good and evil which paints the story (as always) pointing to one of hope with the constant possibility of eternal damnation. The art reflects this in hard angles but with flowing almost melting connotations of life slipping away most readily affected in the evolution of Lazar's voyage to a new host body.Star Wars: Darth Maul - Death Sentence #4 The intensity of Darth Maul's rage is balanced by his necessity for revenge and power. What becomes interesting is the confluence of storyline between this segmentation and "The Clone Wars" animated series. The bordering psychological conundrum that works well actually points back to the problem with the Master/Padawan relationship. Here, in trying to capture Darth Maul, another young Jedi watches his teacher killed in front of him. For some people like Kenobi, his inner discipline is strong enough to uphold him whereas in others like Anakin, it takes a far worse turn. The young Jedi bears more resemblance to the darker side but is able to hold his anger in check while Kenobi and other Jedi masters try to save people on the battlefield from the scorching sun which takes one of their own. The key in all Star Wars lore revolves around the dangling hook of prophecy and what its true nature is. The bigger ideas lie in the Sith's aggressiveness versus the Jedi's complacency which propel the story here especially when Maul gains control of a massive energy power grid.
